Genaea Calvert

My husband Dean and I bought out his business partner from the Valley Inn Tavern in 2014 and then subsequently bought Protocol Bar in 2017. We then went on to purchase The Brickworks bar in 2019 and more recently took over, rebranded and opened 4Shore bar.

Up until, and for some time after the purchase of Brickworks my focus was on all administration aspects of the business HR, Accounts, Marketing, Licensing & compliance and overseeing the day-to-day operations. More recently my focus has moved to concentrating on high level accounts, management and HR related matters.

Prior to owning our own businesses, I worked for 14 years with Micros Fidelio (now Oracle Systems) with their hotel and restaurant installations team for Asia Pacific. This position gave me extensive insight into hotels, bars, restaurant, cafes and quick service operations.

Hospitality has been my life, growing up with parents in the industry, then moving through various jobs while studying, to my work in Australia, and then to business ownership.

I have been part of the Canterbury Branch Committee for the past few years, and this year being nominated as the Vice President. I have really enjoyed being involved in advocacy and how we might evolve and improve as an industry.
