The “On Duty” system has been around for over 10 years, based on the original service run separately by motels in each region, where an operator would take a turn being the “Duty Motel” each week—manually keeping track of all available rooms locally to assist guests in need during busy periods.
This system was eventually brought online via live connections to front desk systems and channel managers, thanks to GuestTraction, which has provided this system exclusively to Accommodation Association NZ members for over 5 years.
This tool is incredibly helpful during busy periods (e.g., Christmas, Easter, etc.) as it allows properties to showcase available rooms to other operators, helping them redirect guests to vacancies.
Compared to checking OTAs for availability, which may only show rooms allocated to that channel, On Duty can display full availability.
